...of Getting New Sisters!

Hey there, future Panthers!

Let me talk to you all about one of my favorite things about UNI- Greek life!

When most people think of joining a sorority, they think of formal recruitment, or what many people know as "rushing." While formal recruitment is how a majority of the girls join a chapter, it is not the only way. In the spring, there is also what is known as informal or "open" recruitment. My sorority recently went through open recruitment and gained 7 amazing new members! We were thrilled to welcome them home to Alpha Delta Pi.

Aren't they adorable?

Informal recruitment differs from formal in a number of ways. It is less structured, a little more casual (dress-wise), and it is focused on only one chapter. During formal, the women participating visit all of the chapters on campus, whereas with informal, they only attend the chapter who is having recruitment during that specific time.

After a few weeks, our new members went through initation and became full members of ADPi. Recruitment is an exciting and incredibly meaningful time for every sorority. If you think formal recruitment seems a little overwhelming but would still be interested in joining a chapter, informal recruitment may be right for you!

...of a Spring Breaker!

Hello, future Panthers!

During Spring break this year, my co-worker, Kari, and I ventured to South Africa for the Study Abroad experience of a lifetime! The course was called "Global Skills" and was one of the various capstone experiences offered abroad. Check out this video detailing some of the highlights of our trip!

Until next time,

...of visiting the Greenhouse!

In honor of the beginning of spring, I took a visit to the Botanical Center on campus! The Botanical Center is a great place to walk through if you need a relief from studying. There are TONS of plants, two birds, and an iguana! Here is a quick look at what you can expect to see!
Make sure you check out the Botanical Center for yourself because it's way better in person!

... of Throwback Thursday

Happy #tbt Future Panthers!

I know some of you may be opposed to good ol' Throwback Thursday, but I was feeling pretty nostalgic last night.  Although I am only a sophomore, I feel like my college career has FLOWN by! Last night I was looking at the schedule for my fall semester of my JUNIOR year!  In high school, I was super excited to be an upper-class man, but in college it is a completely different feeling.  You feel...old.

So today, I would like to indulge in the fall semester of my Freshman year - which will be you guys in a few months! One of your main concerns are probably making new friends and not making a fool of yourself on campus, so here is some advice:

  • Keep your door open! The people you will consider your best friends will most likely be your neighbors.
I met these lovely girls my first night and we will be living in an apartment next year!
  • Join as many organizations as you want! (As long as you still have time for school work!)
We were inseparable after our first meeting! And we get to do great things for UNI together!
  • Explore campus that first weekend! It is a great way to have fun and get familiar with different paths to get to classes!
You might end up in a tree, but you will never forget that night!
  • Have fun! Be yourself! And you will have countless #tbt pictures to post - even ones where you don't have to pull out the baby pics with!

...of many dates with Rod!

Hello Future Panthers!

It is around that time of year again, where students start giving rain checks with their significant others and start dating good ol' Rod! (As in Rod Library of course!)

Rod has plenty of things to offer! Just check out this cute video and see for yourself!

...of watching a Broadway performance!

I am really looking forward to the weekend:
a) because that means its Spring Break
b) because I have tickets to see Dreamgirls at the Gallagher Bluedorn!

As a UNI student, you receive two free tickets per semester to any show at the Gallagher! I think this is so cool because I absolutely love watching shows! And The Artist Series brings in really good performances, like West Side Story, Dreamgirls, American Idiot, 2CELLOS and many more. So make sure you take advantage of your tickets! For more information about the Artist Series and upcoming events at the Gallagher Bluedorn, you can visit their website: www.gbpac.com

I saw West Side Story earlier this semester and it was fantastic, which makes me even more excited to see Dreamgirls!

...of getting a placement!

Happy Monday, baby panthers!

As most of you may know, I applied for National Student Exchange this year. The placement conference was held last week, and on Saturday I got my email from the NSE staff here at UNI saying....

Which means, I'M GOING TO CALIFORNIA! :D

Now that I've been placed at a school, I will need to sign my placement acceptance form sometime this week. After that, the host coordinator from my new school will get in touch with me about admissions info and all that good stuff.

Check out where this panther on exchange (me!) will be exploring next year!

I still have a TON of planning to do (housing, internships, jobs, classes, etc.) but I am so excited for the opportunity to explore the west coast!

Sadly, California State University, Northridge doesn't have a Gamma Phi Beta chapter, UNI faculty, my friends, or my co-workers, but hopefully I'll manage!

Keep dreaming big, baby panthers!

... of a Senior at UNI!

Hey, everyone!

While it is crazy to think that you'll be a freshman in college soon, it's even crazier to imagine being a senior one day! I sat down with two of my coworkers who are graduating this year and asked them about their experiences at UNI, as well as some advice to give incoming freshmen just like you! Enjoy!

Your college years really do fly by. So make the most of them!

Have a great weekend!

... of in it FTK!

Happy Wednesday, Baby panthers!

As you all know, UNI had it's second annual Dance Marathon this past Saturday.  I was a first time DM'er and so the experience was especially memorable for me. A bunch of the girls in my sorority decided that we would all participate in the event together, and we even got to "adopt" one of the Children's Miracle network kiddos. Her name is Ellyonna, and I can't even put into words how great this little girl is.

(sorry about the weird camera angle!)

The Children's Miracle Network is a network of hospitals working especially for the kids (FTK). They work to educate families on childhood issues, train pediatricians and pediatric specialists, as well as treating sick kids. This network does amazing things, including:
  • treating 88% of all children with cancer (that's 49,000 kids per year)
  • treating 45,000 for heart defects and problems each year
  • treating 90% of children with sickle cell anemia
My Gamma Phi girls and our newest "little sister" Ellyonna! :)

Stay in it FTK, baby panthers!

Hey guys! Today we went on a little adventure around Cedar Falls to show you things you should check out! Have a look! :)

Keep Exploring, Baby Panthers!

...of a Thrifty UNI Student

Hey future Panthers! ...Can we go thrift shopping?

Mohair Pear, a vintage clothing store located on College Street, is every UNI student's go-to place for an interesting costume or wacky accessory. Three of us decided to go down to Mohair Pear and play a little dress-up. Enjoy!

Thanks to the employees of Mohair Pear for letting us film and have fun in the store!

Make sure you take a trip to The Hill sometime for a one-of-a-kind experience and some nifty clothing for the new school year!

Have fun and pop some tags,
